Natalie Mangen (MD) - College Scholarship Recipient - IMPACTFUL

The core value that I relate to is impactful. Through my leadership responsibilities in Girl Scouts and Church, I try to have a positive impact on the youth. I have shown my leadership in the classroom and in the school community through my service to others in my scouting career. Having been in Girl Scouts since kindergarten, I learned to teach and empower others throughout the years. I have always enjoyed the opportunities that scouts have given me to improve as well as apply my leadership abilities.

Every year, I have taken on different topics to help other scouts learn and enjoy their time in these programs. I have overseen teaching First aid, fire safety, badge work, and other environmental topics. I enjoy the younger scouts, because they are excited to learn new things and want to hang out with older girls. It’s a great feeling to know that I can have an impact on their lives and give the scouts an environment that they enjoy the same way I had when I was their age.

Being a leader in my youth group is my favorite role I play. During Vacation Bible School, I am a group leader for the second graders. I take them around to the stations and teach them the Bible lesson and the songs of the day. As we go through the stations, making sure they are having fun and learning is a big part of leading the events. Tying in our religion to fun activities is an impactful way for them to grow closer and enjoy learning. It is something I enjoy and have become good at through all my years of volunteering.

With all my volunteering with the Girl Scouts and Church, I have empowered my fellow Scouts and Church youth members to act. This has shown me how I have increased my leadership ability and led others to be leaders. I am proud that I can be a positive influence on my community, and I hope that I can continue to impact others in my future.
